Human Productivity Lab Visual Collaboration Philosophy In knowledge-based organizations shareholder value and strategic competitive advantage is gained by an organization’s ability to accelerate its ability to learn, process, and act on new information.  For organizations that are effectively-capitalized, time is the most valuable commodity.  Effective visual collaboration saves time and treasure by accelerating the global learning and decision process.

Telepresence Focus – The human brain has certain innate expectations with respect to inter-personal communications.  The Human Productivity Lab designs effective visual collaboration solutions that address the human factors of participants to create visual collaboration environments that replicate as closely as possible in-person experience.

Data Collaboration Focus – Often the key element in an effective visual collaboration isn’t the other human beings but the data that they are actively collaborating on.  The Lab designs solutions that allow participants to seamlessly share and collaborate on data in a variety of forms.  In addition, it our belief that these tools should not sit idle when not in use so we offer options that will allow your collaboration rooms to be collaborative spaces for local work when not connected to remote sites.

The Return-On-Investment By using telepresence to meet the innate expectations of participants with respect to interpersonal communications, we have found that effective visual collaboration environments can improve the usage and end-user acceptance over what can be achieved using traditional videoconferencing. Additionally, telepresence and effective visual collaboration:

The Human Productivity Lab Methodology The lab’s methodology is to work with companies to understand the way that your employees work.  What intellectual assets, informational assets they use on a daily basis, the number of rooms in your facility, the facilities you have around the world, and each of the key rooms in each facility and the general workflow of the organization.  Once we understand the way the organization works, we will design a visual collaboration strategy that will plug in your various offices to virtualize that work experience in a seamless, natural, and intuitive way.

Consulting Engagement Work Flow Needs Assessment – Step one is understanding the way that the company does business.  Which locations need to communicate with each other and what kind of work will be done between remote locations –  Intra-company and Inter-company; What informational resources will be used in each visual collaboration environment?; How would you like for your visual collaboration resources to be managed?

Existing Visual Collaboration and Network Audit – Step two is understanding your organization’s existing videoconferencing and network assets and capabilities.  Items to be addressed:

  • Available Bandwidth and QoS
  • Existing video network infrastructure
  • Existing end-points & software revisions
  • Reservation process and scheduling procedures

Solution Design & Financial Modeling – The next step is designing a solution that cost effectively meets your particular needs.  This includes researching solution elements with vendors, doing preliminary room design (not to construction) and constructing a budgetary financial model (upfront costs & recurring) that will break out the projected costs between different solutions and options.

Solution Presentation – Howard S. Lichtman will review the proposed solution with the evaluation team and, after approval by the evaluation team, will be available to present the solution to the company’s senior executive leadership for approval.

Request For Proposal (RFP) Creation – After the proposed solution is approved by the company’s senior executive leadership, in collaboration with the evaluation team we will create a short list of potential vendors (Hardware, Network, VMSP, and Systems/AV Integration) and an RFP outlining the elements of the proposed solution.

Vendor Bid Request – After the RFP and vendor list is approved by the evaluation team we will release the RFP to solicit bids on each element. We estimate it will take a number of weeks to respond to vendor interrogatories and receive their bids.

Vendor Proposal Review & Final Financial Model – We will review the various vendors’ proposals, identify any cost anomalies, and synthesize the proposals into a coherent overview.  We will create a final financial model that will reflect the “actual” costs based on the vendor responses with a separate sheet for each location.

Solution Presentation & Customer Review – We will present the final financial model and proposal to the evaluation team and will be available to present in person if desired.

Project Management – Upon approval of the proposed solution, the HPL can project management all aspects of a given project to ensure that your IT and AV resources are able to focus on other aspects of the business.
