January 14, 2008 | HSL
Polycom has released a video that shows their Video Network

Operations Center (VNOC) capabilities. I discussed the importance of VNOCs and telepresence Community Of Interest Networks (CoINs) in the thoughts and analysis section of our recent article: Cisco Ups the Ante in Telepresence. Organizations contract with Polycom to provide managed services for both their telepresence solutions and traditional videoconferencing systems. The video does a superb job of highlighting many of the complexities of managing telepresence systems.
Telepresence VNOC and Managed Service provides such as Polycom, Teliris, Iformata, HP Halo, and Nortel Telepresence Services have tools and capabilities required for specialized telepresence solutions that are above and beyond what traditional videoconferencing managed service providers possess.
These capabilities include the tools necessary to "frame" a telepresence meeting properly so that when in telepresence multi-point (I.E. everyone life-size) correct eye-lines between the participants is maintained. Other capabilities include: The ability to monitor and diagnose network connections among multiple providers, monitor and troubleshoot specialized equipment like DLP projectors, echo cancellation gear, and multiple video codecs.
Many telepresence meetings connect multiple locations including traditional videoconferencing endpoints at both standard and high definition. Above is a Polycom 400 series RPX connected to multiple locations including traditional videoconferencing endpoints.
Telepresence Managed Service Providers make competent VNOC specialists, help desk personnel, and managers available 24 x 7 x 365 to make meetings reliable, easy-to-use and secure...
...so everyone is happy!
