Telepresence Goes 3D
TelePresence Tech demonstrated its new 3D TelePresence Room at two conferences this week. This high-end videoconferencing solution lets users in a meeting establish eye contact with remote participants, who appear in life size in a three-dimensional setting.

TPT says its technology overcomes problems of eye contact that were common in earlier systems, where the displayed image is reflected. Reflecting systems produce backwards images and are prone to color shifts and other aberrations that are particularly troublesome when high-definition displays are used. By contrast, TPT's solution uses direct views of the displayed images. The three-dimensional backdrop is superimposed to give the appearance of depth.
