Telstra announced today that it will deploy four Cisco TelePresence Meeting systems in its Sydney and Melbourne offices.

The telco is Cisco's first Australian customer for TelePresence -- video over an Internet Protocol (IP) network -- which was launched in October last year. TelePresence simulates a regular meeting environment, using three 65-inch ultra-high definition 1080p panels and three cameras aligned along one side of a boardroom table, coupled with spatially-accurate sound placement. The Cisco 3000 series also comes complete with a specifically designed table that seats six participants on one side, or a virtual table for 12.

Telstra's Group Managing Director, Enterprise and Government, David Thodey said in a statement today: "TelePresence will help Telstra drive productivity and enable our senior management to collaborate as if in the same room, despite being more than thousands of kilometres apart."

Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo also unveiled a AU$1.5 billion Internet Protocol (IP) network -- Telstra Next IP -- at the special briefing in Sydney this morning.
